Last week UQ students enrolled in PLAN3005/7121 Community participation in Planning did a site visit to the four landing locations of the Green Bridges that will be connecting West End to Toowong and West End to St Lucia in inner city Brisbane. We visited the four sites by the Brisbane River. In the former ABC site we visited the marketing office of Monarch, where the Toowong landing of the bridge will be located. Staff from CGH constructions, the private developer who now owns the site, showed us the site and the layout of the new development that includes two 15-storied residential towers.
This visit is part of the preparation for the assignment to design a Community Engagement Plan for these two bridges. The material for the visit, including a fantastic video and set of interviews, was prepared by Ben Bragagnolo, Laura Gooding and Rory Little (UQ Planning students) and Jonathon Dawson (ITALI/Science Digital Learning). The visit and activities were coordinated by Sonia Roitman (course coordinator) and Augustin Bauchot (course tutor).
Contributing to a more sustainable, green and healthy city, the full visit was organised using public transport (Brisbane City Cat), with some parts of the itinerary done by foot. For more information on the Green Bridges check the Brisbane City Council Green Bridges Program webpage.
