The Australian Greens invite you to a forum entitled: ‘The Case for Free and Frequent Public Transport’. The purpose of the forum is to try to introduce the public to the idea that we should see transport in the city as a universal right, not as a privatised, user-pays system.
Making public transport free will help everyday people with cost of living, dealing with the growing problem of traffic congestion, and the problem of growing transport emissions. While the ‘free’ part is the focus, how we expand public and active transport networks so that everyone has access will also feature.
UQ|UP member Dorina Pojani will speak to some of the bigger picture issues around principles of urban planning and how transport fits into the way we shape our city. Other speakers include Elizabeth Watson-Brown (federal Greens MP for Ryan), Michael Berkman (Greens MP for Maiwar), and Jon Bryant (Greens member and transport planner). BCC Cr Jonathan Sriranganathan will facilitate.
When 3-5pm Sunday 16 April
Where: Advanced Engineering Building, UQ St Lucia.
