Congratulations Dr Luftun Lata!

Congratulations Dr Lutfun Lata!

The PhD degree has been conferred to Lata! Lata’s thesis discusses ‘Counter-space’ and the spatial politics of the use of public space in a slum in Dhaka, Bangladesh. She uses the ideas of Lefebvre to discuss the actions and subtle practices of poor residents to secure their livelihoods contesting the role of formal and informal ‘space controllers’ who usually demand ‘protection money’.

Lata is the first student in the School of Social Science and the second student in the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences at The University of Queensland to go through the (newly established) oral examination (viva voce) at UQ. Well done Lata! The supervisory team (Dr Peter Walters, Dr Sonia Roitman and A/Prof Adil Khan) is very proud of you!

Lata has recently published a paper with some findings from her PhD (click here).

All the best in your future endeavours Lata!
