Dr. Sebastien Darchen (UQ) and Dr. Gwendal Simon (Universite Paris-Est Marne-La-Vallee) present the planning instruments and financing mechanisms leading to good regeneration outcomes in France. The examples of large-scale regeneration projects of Ile de Nantes, Lyon Confluence and Paris Rive Gauche are presented. If “New Built Gentrification” cannot always be avoided, regeneration processes in France usually lead to good outcomes in terms of the mix of uses, the provision of affordable housing and the creation of a sense of place.
