Welcome our new environmental planner

Dr Bettina Bluemling is joins us from Utrecht University, the Netherlands. She is also visiting professor at the Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University, China.

Her research focuses on the governance of regional social-ecological systems in developing countries and transition economies. She looks at how policies developed on a global and national scale are reconfigured by regional actors and institutions, as well as how actors on a regional and local scale create new institutions to bridge the dichotomy between economic development and environmental protection. Bettina’s geographical focus is on Asia, particularly China. She has worked extensively on the adaptive transformation of water governance, as well as on bioenergy as a means of transforming regional governance. She has also been acting as a reviewer for research grants (e.g. Research Council of Norway, Hong Kong Research Grants Council) and carried out academic consultancy work.

Welcome Bettina! We look forward to working with you.
