Today, the University of Transport and Communications in Hanoi hosted UQ|UP member Dorina Pojani for a guest lecture and workshop on Urban Transport Modes and Sustainability in the Global South. Dorina, whose research work includes urban development and mobility in rapidly growing regions, shared her expertise with students and local colleagues. Her lecture delved into the challenges and opportunities faced by small and large cities in the Global South, emphasizing the role of innovative and context-sensitive transport solutions. The accompanying workshop provided a hands-on approach to analysing the transfer of sustainable transport policies and technologies from one place to another. Students explored Hanoi issues and considered how international transport solutions can adapt to Vietnamese economic constraints, cultural preferences, and environmental goals. Dorina highlighted the importance of integrating motorcycles with other modes of transport, such as walking, cycling, and public transit, to create a more inclusive and resilient network. This visit to Hanoi, which is part of her sabbatical leave, reflects Dorina’s ongoing commitment to sharing knowledge and building collaborations across borders.
