We now know that transport and mobility have strong social, cultural, and political dimensions, they’re not merely technical disciplines. In this new paper, UQ|UP’s Dorina Pojani and her colleagues in Vietnam investigate the reasons why people are so attached to motorcycles in two Vietnamese megacities, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. They find that motorcycles are variously seen as convenient, inexpensive, fun, flexible, modern, and wonted – whereas factors such as health, safety, status, and environmental impact are irrelevant. Motorcycle use is also determined by habit and political values. Download the article here (open access): https://www.istiee.unict.it/sites/default/files/files/ET_2024_99_6.pdf
