International Development: UQ|UP students in conversation with UQ Chancellor

To close off a great semester, yesterday students in PLAN7612 Global South Cities, coordinated by Dr Sonia Roitman, had a great conversation with UQ Chancellor, Mr Peter Varghese.

This lecture has become a regular annual event in the course. Students had the opportunity to meet face to face (and via Zoom for those off shore) with Mr Varghese to discuss international development. As a former Secretary of DFAT, his views are always significant for students. Mr Varghese provided views on the importance of strong policies and leadership in international development, as well as the reconfiguration of international relationships in a COVID time. He also elaborated on how Australia can continue to contribute to capacity building through educational and vocational training in the Asia Pacific region.

It was a highly enjoyable event to finish the semester. Students and staff were very grateful to the UQ Chancellor for sharing his views and time.
