If shopping centres killed the suburban high streets and online shopping is killing the shopping centres, is it time for the high street to make a comeback? The whole concept of high street design and the idea of creating a genuine community was the subject of a recent study by a UQ|UP team.
Dr Dorina Pojani presents the study findings on ABC Radio, Afternoons with Katherine Feeney. Listen to the podcast: www.abc.net.au/radio/brisbane/programs/afternoons/suburban-high-streets/10880734
Great work Dorina. Interestingly, many shopping centres are re-creating/creating high streets within their precincts. They are opening up those suburban boxes with walking streets and active shop fronts. Best of both worlds!
Yes, exactly. More and more, people are after high quality design rather than simply functional shopping spaces. And the private sector is responding (perhaps faster than the public sector!)
An ‘experience’ rather than simply the consumption of goods.
