UQ|UP’s Laurel Johnson was interviewed on ABC radio Gold Coast today to share her view on a recent decision of the Planning and Environment Court to reject an application for a high rise development at Greenmount Beach on the Gold Coast.
The proposed development was well outside of the height limits and car parking provisions in the planning scheme for the area. What is unusual in this case is that the Gold Coast City Council approved the development and then changed its mind to join the case against that approval in the Court. The Judge ruled that the planning scheme was an expression of the public interest in this case and that this high rise development proposal did not warrant overriding that public interest.
